Gooooood morning Team PR@ctical.

PITCH THE LISTS 📢
Looking for a new way to engage with or pitch journalists? Look no further than the trend in journalists moving to paid subscription newsletter models (most are over here on Substack). Sign up, subscribe and share their work. It’s not rocket science — engage with them where they are most active and passionate, on their own growing platforms.
Here are a few to get started:
@ericnewcomer / Newcomer
@emorwee / Heated
@joshsternberg / The Media Nut
@mtaibbi / Reporting
@Kantrowitz / Big Technology
@JuddLegum / Popular Information
@JoanNiesen / Outside the (Press) Box
@craigcalcaterra / Cup of Coffee
NEWSWORTHY EDITORIAL CALENDAR
I created this template to help you plan your stories (or clients) from a newsworthy perspective. Take, use, share.
👆 I’m a fierce believer in fundamentals. PR is no different from your favorite sport, you have to understand HOW it works in order to be effective. Since I am the daughter of a basketball coach, this is what resonates with me. The triple threat (also applies to the arts and football). You have three options when you have a story you’re looking to help get told
—> Dribble: Strategize, think, plan and then:
—> Pass: Pitch to a media outlet
—> Shoot: Share from your own outlets
CELEBRATE NEW ROLES and PROMOTIONS
Sometimes we are so close to our projects and jobs we forget to take a step back. In PR we are accountable for getting media placements, which inherently means we are always asking and telling in our interactions. It’s not a reciprocal relationship. So, how do we make sure we are doing MORE to ensure we BALANCE our asks.
One way I do this is to monitor the media industry and look for opportunities to share, celebrate and congratulate accomplishments, like job moves and promotions.
Here are all the tools I use:
@theorgcom: transparent org charts
@muckrack: media moves
@flocknet: Twitter bio-based
@LinkedIn: personal connections
All my best,
Sarah
